What Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections use a highly purified form of botulinum toxin to temporarily relax the small muscles responsible for expression lines. When those muscles contract less, the overlying skin smooths out — softening forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, and crow's feet around the eyes.

The treatment has an outstanding safety record built over more than three decades of clinical use. At Abela Medical, every treatment is performed by a qualified aesthetic doctor, not a beauty therapist — meaning you benefit from a full medical assessment before any product is used.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Most healthy adults in their late twenties and above can benefit. The ideal candidate is someone who notices dynamic lines — creases that appear when you move your face but fade at rest — and would like to reduce them while preserving natural expression.

Anti-wrinkle treatments are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and our doctors will discuss any medications or medical conditions at your consultation. If you are brand new to aesthetics, a 15-minute consultation (free of charge at Abela Medical) is the safest starting point.

What Happens During the Procedure?

The appointment typically takes 20–30 minutes from start to finish. Your doctor will cleanse the treatment area and may apply a topical numbing cream — though most patients find the injections comfortable without it. A series of small, precise injections are placed into the target muscles using a very fine needle.

There is no recovery time. You can return to work and most daily activities immediately, though we ask that you avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and lying flat for the first four hours.

After Your Treatment: Recovery & Results

You may notice small bumps or mild redness at the injection sites — this settles within 30–60 minutes. Some patients experience light bruising which can be covered with make-up the following day.

Results begin to appear between two and five days after treatment, with the full effect visible at two weeks. Effects typically last three to four months, after which the muscle activity gradually returns and retreatment maintains the result. With regular treatment, many patients find the intervals between appointments gradually lengthen as the muscles become conditioned.

Conclusion

Anti-wrinkle injections remain one of the most requested treatments in aesthetic medicine for good reason: they are fast, well-tolerated, and deliver consistent, natural-looking improvements when placed by an experienced practitioner.

The most important step is choosing a clinic where medical oversight is standard rather than optional. At Abela Medical, every patient is seen by a doctor — not just for injections but for the full journey, from pre-treatment assessment through to the two-week review.
